Women’s tennis wins narrowly against Point at home
Karson Light won the clinching point to help the Milligan University women’s tennis team get back on the winning track with a 4-3 victory over Point Friday afternoon at Mathes Tennis Center. Milligan’s men fell to the nationally-ranked No. 15 Skyhawks 5-2.
MILLIGAN, Tenn. (March 26, 2021) – Karson Light won the clinching point to help the Milligan University women's tennis team get back on the winning track with a 4-3 victory over Point Friday afternoon at Mathes Tennis Center. Milligan's men fell to the nationally-ranked No. 15 Skyhawks 5-2.
Light was one of three winners in singles action for the women. She won a tight second set (6-3, 7-5) at No. 4 singles, while Kylie Enarson (6-2, 6-1) at No. 3 and Rachel Dove (6-2, 6-1) at No. 6 also won in straight sets.
The day started with a crucial win of the doubles point for Milligan, as Enarson and Light won 6-3 at No. 2 doubles and Marlaina Peterson and Hannah Nelson won 6-1 at No. 3 doubles.
On the men's side, Mason Grear and Taylor Graalman won 7-5 at No. 2 doubles, but Point took the doubles point with wins at Nos. 1 and 3. Grear followed shortly thereafter with a defaulted win at No. 2 singles while Charlie Moseley won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 6 as Milligan's only other victory.
The win for Moseley improved him to a team-best 6-1 record this season, and he is 6-0 at No. 6 singles. Light has the highest win total for Milligan's women with four wins in singles.
Up next, the Buffaloes head to nationally-ranked Tennessee Wesleyan (No. 6 men, No. 14 women) Sunday before going to Union and Johnson next Wednesday and Thursday, respectively.
