Women’s tennis posts three wins during spring break
Minda Martin, Karson Light, Marlaina Peterson and Rachel Dove led the Milligan College women’s tennis team to a 3-2 record in Hilton Head Island over spring break. Each posted three singles wins of their own as the team improved to 5-6 on the season.
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (March 13, 2020) – Minda Martin, Karson Light, Marlaina Peterson and Rachel Dove led the Milligan College women's tennis team to a 3-2 record in Hilton Head Island over spring break. Each posted three singles wins of their own as the team improved to 5-6 on the season.
Milligan opened the week with a 5-2 win over Thomas More, followed with a 6-1 loss to Missouri Valley, won the next two, 7-0 over Catholic and 8-1 over Gordon, and then closed the week with a 6-1 loss to Lawrence Tech.
Martin started the week with a pair of losses before bouncing back with wins in each of her last three matches, playing the last three at No. 2 singles. Light also went 3-2 and nearly had a fourth win in the final match of the week but fell 10-5 in a super tiebreaker moments after winning the second set in a regular breaker.
Peterson and Dove rounded out Milligan's singles leaders of the week, also with 3-2 records. Peterson won all three matches at No. 5 singles in straight sets; Dove won all three matches at No. 6 singles, also in straight sets. Dove improved her regular season singles record to a team-leading 7-4.
In other singles action, McKenzie Grady won twice, both times in super tiebreakers at No. 1 singles.
Light led the way in doubles, posting a 4-1 record, including three wins which she posted with Martin.
