14 Milligan swimmers earn CSCAA All-America honors

MILLIGAN, Tenn. (April 14, 2022) – A program record 14 Milligan University swimmers were announced as All-Americans by the College Swimming and Diving Coaches of America (CSCAA) on Thursday.

Individual All-Americans were selected on the basis of their finish at the NAIA National Championships and membership with the CSCAA. The top eight individuals and top four relays in each event earned First Team status and relays that finished fifth-through-eighth were named Second Team All-Americans.

Milligan finished fifth at the NAIA National Championships in the men's and women's team standings. Sophomore Stephen Gilbert became Milligan's first-ever NAIA national champion in swimming as he captured the national title in the 400-yard individual medley in an NAIA all-time record time of 3:51.08.

Gilbert, Andre Bazzana, Wiktor Perkowski, Tyler Cates and Gabby MacPherson all earned multiple individual All-America honors. The Buffs earned posted top-eight national finishes in all 10 relays at the national championship meet.

"This was by far the highest number that we've had from a national meet, and I'm very proud of how they stepped up and raced in a new and unfamiliar environment," said head coach Spencer Scarth. "We can't wait to see what's next!"
