Eight school records fall in day two of Fall Frenzy Invite
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (November 20, 2021) – The Milligan University swim teams continued to record nationally-competitive times in the second day of the Fall Frenzy Invitational as the Buffs posted eight NAIA "A" cuts, eight school records and 10 NAIA provisional times.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (November 20, 2021) – The Milligan University swim teams continued to record nationally-competitive times in the second day of the Fall Frenzy Invitational as the Buffs posted eight NAIA "A" cuts, eight school records and 10 NAIA provisional times.
Milligan set school records and hit NAIA "A" cuts in its men's and women's 200 medley and 800 freestyle relays.
"Started and finished with records on both the eight and two medleys, realy sums up how we swam today," said head coach Spencer Scarth. "Almost 100 percent season bests, a number of lifetime bests… really excited to see how we finish tomorrow with many more chances for great swims."
Tyler Cates, Kaylee Williams, Gabby MacPherson and Maggie Blazo swam to the second-fastest 200 medley relay time in the nation in 1:48.64. The men recorded the third-fastest 200 medley relay with Wiktor Perkowski, Ben Hawkins, Andre Bazzana and Stephen Gilbert swimming 1:33.35.
In the 800 free relay, MacPherson, Liz Mahan, Cates and Blazo posted the fastest time in the country in 2021-22 at 7:49.38. Gilbert, Perkowski, Ethan McCosh and Bazzana also notched a national No. 1 time in the 800 free relay by over 15 seconds in 6:51.95.
Gilbert swam the No. 1 400 IM in the NAIA this year with a school record effort of 3:56.59, an NAIA "A" cut.
Perkowski also registered an NAIA "A" cut, school record and NAIA No. 1 time thus far in 2020-21 in the 100 fly with a 49.74 performance. He also notched a provisional time in the 100 back (51.37).
Bazzana joined in with an NAIA "A" cut and school record in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:40.86, the No. 3 time in the NAIA this season. He also snagged a provisional mark in the 100 fly (50.18), the second-fastest time in the NAIA, only behind Bazzana.
Cates recorded an NAIA "A" cut in the 100 back for the second-straight day with a 57.42 in the prelims.
Williams broke her own school record in the 100 breast in a provisional time of 1:05.94.
MacPherson established a program record and the No. 2 NAIA time in the 200 freestyle to leadoff the 800 free relay (1:55.32).
Emma Rae Phillips in the 400 IM (4:45.57), McCosh in the 100 fly (51.90), Blazo in the 200 free (1:55.59), Hawkins (57.06) and Aubin Dulin (58.57) in the 100 breast and Nicholas Harviel (1:46.63) in the 200 free to lead off the 800 free relay all secured NAIA provisional marks.
The Fall Frenzy concludes Sunday in Charlotte.
