CHARLOTTE, N.C. (November 19, 2021) – The Milligan University swimming teams posted five program records, four NAIA "A" cuts, 12 NAIA provisional times and virtually season bests across the board on day one of the Fall Frenzy Invitational in Charlotte.
"Really pleased with how we did against some very fast competition and how our team came together to support one another in a hyper competitive environment," said head coach Spencer Scarth. "Finaling at this meet is more challenging than at nationals with the depth and speed that Queens, Wingate etc have, but we made every swim count today. We'll look to build off our finishes that we had in the 400 medley relays, with both groups shattering school records and setting the bar high for our national meet. Plenty to look forward to in the next two days!"
Gabby MacPherson hit an "A" cut and set a school record the 500-yard freestyle (5:05.84).
Stephen Gilbert notched an "A" cut in the 200 IM at 1:50.70.
Milligan's 400 medley relay teams both swam program record and NAIA "A" cut times. Tyler Cates, Kaylee Williams, MacPherson and Maggie Blazo posted a 3:53.71. Gilbert, Aubin Dulin, Wiktor Perkowski and Andre Bazzana swam 3:24.00. In the women's medley relay, Cates set Milligan's 100 backstroke record in 56.94.
Blazo established a team record in the 50 free (24.42).
Emma Rae Phillips (500 free), Cates (500 free), Ben Hawkins (500 free), Ethan McCosh (500 free and 100 back), Aubin Dulin (200 IM), Blazo (50 free), Liz Mahan (50 free), Perkowski (50 free), Logan Garzonio (50 free), Gilbert (100 back) and Rachel Scheffer (100 back) all hit provisional times.
