Maggie Blazo named to CoSIDA Academic All-America® First Team
AUSTIN, Texas (August 3, 2021) –Milligan University women’s swimming graduate Maggie Blazo has been named to the 2020-21 Academic All-America® NAIA Women's At-Large First Team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
AUSTIN, Texas (August 3, 2021) –Milligan University women's swimming graduate Maggie Blazo has been named to the 2020-21 Academic All-America® NAIA Women's At-Large First Team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Tuesday.
Blazo is Milligan's second ever Academic All-American, following in the footsteps of former volleyball standout Kendra Fiddler. She is the first Buff to collect First Team Academic All-American status.
Blazo graduated this past May after double-majoring in Business Administration and Communications. She completed her undergraduate career with a 3.90 grade point average.
Blazo is an 11-time NAIA and CSCAA All-American, owns five individual school records and swam on five record-setting relays. She was the Appalachian Athletic Conference's Co-Swimmer of the Year in 2020 and swept conference Swimmer of the Year and Newcomer of the Year awards in 2018.
She concluded her undergraduate career as the Buffs' most decorated women's swimmer since Milligan restarted its swimming programs in 2007.
Academic All-America honorees are selected by Sports Information Directors across the NAIA. To be nominated for the Academic All-America® program, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore, hold a 3.30 or higher cumulative grade point average and be a starter or significant reserve.
The Women's At-Large team features athletes from the following sports: beach volleyball, bowling, competitive cheer, competitive dance, golf, lacrosse, swimming, tennis, and wrestling. Blazo was one of five women's swimmers honored as Academic All-Americans and was one of three that were named to the First Team.
