MILLIGAN, Tenn. (Nov. 9, 2020) – For the second time this season, the Milligan University swim program swept the Appalachian Athletic Conference swimmer of the week awards, with freshmen Stephen Gilbert and Kaylee Williams earning honors. The AAC made the announcement Monday for the week ending Nov. 8.
The Buffaloes have swept the award each time they have competed this season. Gilbert, now a two-time winner, won previously alongside freshman Gabby MacPherson on Oct. 5. Williams won this week for the first time in her career.
Gilbert led the Buffs this weekend with a trio of stellar individual swims. He won the 200 individual medley and 200 backstroke, both in school record and national qualifying times. He also took second in the 100 back. Gilbert's time of 1:52.39 in the 200 back helped him win that race by nearly eight seconds.
All three times for Gilbert this past weekend were the fastest in the NAIA so far this season.
Williams set school records in the 100 and 200 breaststroke, each marking the fastest times in the AAC this season. She currently leads the NAIA in the 200 breaststroke and ranks second in the NAIA in the 100 breaststroke. Both times also are national qualifying.
Williams also swam the breaststroke leg of the 200 medley relay that currently leads the NAIA.
Gilbert, Williams and the Buffs finish up the fall semester of competition with a trip to Union in Barbourville, Kentucky, this weekend. The next meet after that will be in 2021.
