MacPherson, Gilbert sweep AAC swim awards
Freshmen Gabby MacPherson and Stephen Gilbert debuted for the Milligan University swimming program with a couple of stellar performances that garnered them Appalachian Athletic Conference swimmer of the week. The AAC office announced the award winners Monday for the week ending Oct. 4.
MILLIGAN, Tenn. (Oct. 5, 2020) – Freshmen Gabby MacPherson and Stephen Gilbert debuted for the Milligan University swimming program with a couple of stellar performances that garnered them Appalachian Athletic Conference swimmer of the week. The AAC office announced the award winners Monday for the week ending Oct. 4.
Winners for the first time in their young Milligan careers, each posted several national qualifying marks, and they combined to break three Milligan records. Their efforts helped Milligan win the King Invitational on the men's side and finish runner-up on the women's side.
MacPherson debuted for the Buffs with national qualifying times in the 200 fly and 200 free. She broke the Milligan record in the 200 fly with a time of 2:11.76 and won the 200 free with a time of 1:58.42. MacPherson finished in the top three in every event she competed.
Gilbert similarly debuted for the Buffs with a win in every event he competed. This included posting national qualifying times in the 200 free, 100 back and 200 back, and he set the Milligan record in the 200 free (1:42.78) and 200 back (1:53.17).
Up next, MacPherson, Gilbert and the Buffs swim at home on Saturday, Oct. 24, in their annual orange vs. black meet. It will be the first of three events on the schedule during the fall semester.
