Milligan competes in final regular season meet
The Milligan College swim team competed against Union College and King University Saturday afternoon in Barbourville, Kentucky.
BARBOURVILLE, Ky. (Feb. 1, 2020) – The Milligan College swim team competed against Union College and King University Saturday afternoon in Barbourville, Kentucky.
The men's team fell to Union 147-113 and to King 149-110. The women split the day, defeating Union 122-108 but falling to King 172-81.
Women's side
The women started the day off with the 400 medley relay team of Rachel Scheffer, Lindsey Grow, Jordan Clark and Maggie Halloran finishing in second place and securing a national A standard time of 4:21.22. Halloran then went on to secure an A standard in the 1650 freestyle with a second-place finish.
Halloran and Scheffer went on to finish in first and second place in the 100 backstroke. Halloran finished with a time of 1:03.53 securing a national standard and Scheffer finished with a time of 1:04.95.
The final women's event was the team of Anna Backus, Anna Hathcock, Marlie Henegar and Kaylee Propst finishing in third in the 400 freestyle relay and securing a national A standard time of 4:09.87.
Men's side
Mitchell Martin highlighted the men's side, securing a national A standard time and breaking the school's mile record in the men's 1650 freestyle with a time of 17:13.48.
Matthew McFalls secured a national standard time with a second-place finish in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:49.06, only .07 seconds out of a first-place finish. McFalls went on to secure another national standard time in the 50 freestyle with a time of 22.46.
Sterling Burnett secured the win in the 100 backstroke and a national A standard with a time of 53.91. He went on to win the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:01.21, securing a national standard time in that event as well. Burnett and McFalls went on to join Ben Hawkins and Logan Garzonio to secure a national A standard in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:21.48.

With the regular season now completed, the Buffs will begin preparing for the Appalachian Athletic Conference Championships which will be held Feb. 13-15, in Kingsport, Tennessee, at the Kingsport Aquatic Center.
