ATHENS, Tenn. - On Saturday afternoon, the Milligan University women's soccer team continued their Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) schedule with an in-state battle against Tennessee Wesleyan. A hard fought battle by the Lady Buffs ended in a 1-0 loss on the road.
The Lady Buffs hit the road for what was a challenging away game for the team. Milligan was tasked with facing the Bulldogs, who sit even with No. 22-ranked Truett McConnell atop the AAC table. The Buffs battled strong in the first half, but conceded a goal in the 19th minute.
In a second half that was a mad dash at the conclusion, Milligan had a corner kick as time expired, but it was cleared by the TWU defense to turn Milligan away.
Nikki Shirley recorded the lone shot on the day for the Buffaloes who displayed a tough defensive performance but were unable to offer more on the offensive end.
Walcott's had an impressive day between the pipes, making seven saves against eight shots on net, but the loss pushes her season record to 6-6-2.
The Buffs will take this defensive effort and look build on it, as they aim to bounce back on Wednesday, Oct. 23 in a road game at Union Commonwealth in Barbourville, Ky.
