MILLIGAN, Tenn. – On Saturday afternoon at Anglin Field, the Milligan University women's soccer squad faced off with Columbia College in an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) bout. Two goals in the first half and two goals in the second half ensured the Buffs would take their winning streak to three with a 4-1 win at home.
The opening half of play was tightly contested through the first 25 minutes with both teams having chances before Lauren Hawkley put the Buffs up 1-0. Shelby Knight would finish off a great team goal 10 minutes later to put the Buffs up 2-0 heading into the break.
Columbia would make the contest much more interesting just 31 seconds into the second half to make it 2-1. Alara Tyrer answered with a beautiful goal from 25 yards out that floated over the keeper's head into the side netting to make it 3-1. Natalie Roper would put the game beyond doubt in the 72nd minute with a solo finish into the bottom corner to make it 4-1 for the Buffs.
Akyla Walcott made four saves in net for the Buffs in what ended up being a comfortable day for the Buffs goalkeeper pushing her record to 3-4-1.
After the second straight home victory, the Buffs have much to look forward to, as they now have a three game win streak behind them and will take it on the road to Bluefield, Va. for a bout against AAC rival Bluefield College.
