CLEVELAND, Ga. — The commencement of the 2024 Milligan women's soccer squad's Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) schedule occurred on Wednesday evening in Cleveland, Ga., at No. 22-ranked Truett-McConnell University. It was a difficult battle for the Buffs, as they started their conference slate with a 7-1 loss to the defending AAC regular-season and tournament champions.
With the loss, the Buffaloes fall to 0-4-1, 0-1-0 AAC. Meanwhile, TMU moves to 3-1-1, 2-0-0 AAC.
The scoring started early, as the Bears picked up an 8th-minute tally to take a 1-0 lead, before tripling that advantage with goals in the 15th and 18th minutes. One more first-half salvo was fired in the 31st minute, making it a tremendous 4-0 hole that the Buffs would be forced to climb out of in the second half.
No such comeback would be achieved, but after two more goals by the Bears in the 50th and 72nd minutes, Milligan would finally get on the board with a goal from freshman Kylie Malone scored an unassisted goal in the 81st minute, marking her first collegiate goal. Another Truett-McConnell goal in the 86th minute made it 7-1, where the score would remain until the bout's conclusion.
The Buffs will come back home on Saturday, Sept. 14 to face off with the Rams of Columbia International University at 2 p.m.
