MILLIGAN, Tenn. – The Milligan University women's soccer team fell in match number two of their young season on Wednesday evening in Williamsburg, Ky. against the No. 1-ranked University of the Cumberlands Patriots.
The Buffs fall to 0-2-0 on the year while Cumberlands moves to 4-0-0.
In the matchup's 1st, 5th, 16th and 32nd minutes, the juggernaut Patriots managed to score four goals to give them an early commanding advantage entering half time.
The second half was a bit different from the first, as Cumberlands did not score a single goal after the intermission.
In their second straight battle against a top-10 opponent, the Buffs struggled to mount any offensive attack, managing just a single shot, which came in the second half from Stella Van Beusichem.
Akyla Walcott was tested again, stopping a total of nine shots in the opening half, as she was tested by a total of 13 on frame. Annie Steele stopped both shots that were on target from the Patriots in the second half. Overall, Cumberlands attempted 38 shots, missing the frame with 22 of them.
Next on the docket is an escapade to Dalton, Ga., where the Buffaloes will face the Dalton State College Roadrunners at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 1.
