Women’s Soccer drops AAC match to Brenau 3-1
MILLIGAN, Tenn. (October 18, 2023) – The Milligan University women’s soccer team dropped an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) game to Brenau, 3-1, at Anglin Field on Wednesday evening.

The Buffs fall to 7-7-1 on the season and 6-5 in AAC play. Brenau moves to 7-6, 5-6 AAC.
Brenau scored in the 22nd minute as a looping left-angled shot was deflected away by Milligan goalkeeper Akyla Walcott but the Tigers headed the rebounded in for the game's opening goal.
Taylor Dawson, Angeleena Waaland and Natalie Roper each had long-distance shots on goal in the first half but all three attempts were saved.
Walcott parried a Brenau shot off a free kick just beyond the 18-yard box in the 44th minute and Makenna Wilkins cleared the ball before the Tigers could knock in their second goal. The Buffs went into the half trailing 1-0.
Roper found Waaland beyond the Tigers' back line in the 51st minute. Her contested shot sailed high.
Brenau went ahead 2-0 in the 56th minute. The Tigers sent a sky-high ball into the box, it bounced and then was headed in to give the visitors a two-goal edge.
Roper had a head snatched out of the air in the 59th. Hawkley had a free kick blocked in the 63rd and a shot saved in the 68th. Waaland and Roper had scoring opportunities sail wide in the 78th and 80th minutes.
Walcott made a save on a one-on-one breakaway in the 84th to keep the margin at 2-0. The Tigers put the game out of reach with a tally less than a minute later.
Lucy Knowles tapped in Milligan's first goal in the 85th off a cross by Waaland.
The Buffs outshot Brenau 16-14 (9-8 SOG). Milligan recorded all five of the corner kicks in the game.
Walcott finished with five saves in the defeat.
Milligan hosts Tennessee Wesleyan on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
