Nine Buffs score in Women’s Soccer win at KCU

GRAYSON, Ky. (October 11, 2023) – The Milligan University women's soccer team defeated Kentucky Christian University 11-0 in Kentucky on Wednesday. Nine different players scored for the Buffs and a dozen recorded at least a point in the win.

The Buffs move to 7-5-1 on the season and 6-3 in Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) league play. KCU falls to 0-11, 0-10 AAC.

Milligan scored in the second minute of action as Kori Barnhill sent a through ball up the left side onto a sprinting Lauren Hawkley. Hawkley centered a pass for Natalie Roper, who beat KCU's keeper with a left-footed shot to give the Buffs a 1-0 lead.

Roper set Hawkley up for the game's second goal in the 29th minute. Hawkley found Roper, who ran onto the ball behind the Knights' back line and made a wide move around the KCU goalie and sent a grounded cross back to Hawkley for the tap-in goal.

The Buffs went ahead 3-0 in the 31st minute on a header by Roper just outside the six-yard box on a cross from beyond the penalty area by Hawkley.

Milligan led 4-0 at halftime as Shelby Knight scored in the final minute of the half off a cross from Kara McDaniel.

The Buffs added seven more goals in the second half.

Angeleena Waaland scored an unassisted goal in the 48th minute. Mariah Shull cashed in with a tallyl in 57th. McKinna Murr scored off a feed from Knight in the 60th.

Lucy Knowles ran onto a lead pass from Taylor Dawson and beat the keeper in the 66th. Barnhill scored from Makenna Wilkins in the 67th and Emma True set up Hawkley in the 71st. True assisted Buckner in the 85th.

Milligan outshot the Knights 42-3 on the day. Hawkley finished with two goals and two assists. Roper had two goals and one assist. True had two assists.

The Buffs travel to Montreat on Saturday.
