Women’s Soccer rolls to 6-0 victory over Bluefield
MILLIGAN, Tenn. (September 27, 2023) – The Milligan University women’s soccer team got back into the win column with a 6-0 victory over Bluefield at Science Hill High School on Wednesday evening.
MILLIGAN, Tenn. (September 27, 2023) – The Milligan University women's soccer team got back into the win column with a 6-0 victory over Bluefield at Science Hill High School on Wednesday evening.
Despite a two-hour delay and a venue change due to weather, Milligan moved to 4-4-1 on the season and 3-2 in Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) action. Bluefield falls to 0-8-1, 0-6 AAC.
Natalie Roper began the scoring in the game's first five minutes as she headed in a rebound off a shot by Kori Barnhill for her team-leading seventh goal of the year.
Roper struck again in the 11th minute after Lauren Hawkley angled forward a pass toward the left post and Roper snuck it past the keeper to give the Buffs a 2-0 lead.
Angeleena Waaland made it 3-0 Buffs in the 27th minute. Sarah Buckner spun a pass from the outside of her foot into the penalty area and Waaland blasted a shot into the opposite corner for her third goal of the season.
Milligan carried a three-goal edge into halftime and outshot Bluefield 15-3 in the first period.
Emma True served up a free kick from the right side of the 18-yard box in the 47th minute and Nikki Shirley poked in her first goal as a Buff to extend Milligan's advantage to 4-0.
Mariah Shull scored two minutes later with a header off a corner kick by Barnhill to make it 5-0.
Stella Van Beusichem scored her first goal as a Buff in the 67th minute with a long-range blast off a feed from Shelby Knight.
The Buffs outshot Bluefield 26-8 and had a 10-0 edge in corner kicks.
The Buffs travel to Johnson on Saturday.
