Women’s Soccer falls at No. 15 Cumberland

LEBANON, Tenn. (September 6, 2023) – The Milligan University women's soccer team fell 8-0 at No. 15 Cumberland on Wednesday afternoon.
The Buffs fall to 1-2 on the season while Cumberland remains unbeaten at 5-0-1.
The Phoenix got on the board in the fifth as a right-angled shot was deflected by Milligan goalkeeper Akyla Walcott but it bounced off the left post and Cumberland one-timed the rebound just under the crossbar to put the hosts ahead 1-0.
The Phoenix fired in their second goal from the top of the 18-yard box in the 20th minute.
Late in the first half Angeleena Waaland ran onto a lead pass from Natalie Roper and notched the Buffs' first shot with a wide-angled attempt from the right side of the 18-yard box that was saved.
Cumberland tacked on a third goal in the 41st minute to carry a 3-0 lead into the half. Walcott made six saves in the period.
The Phoenix scored five times in the second half to bring the final margin to 8-0.
The Buffs earned a corner kick in the 71st minute but nothing came of the opportunity. Milligan had a free kick into the box in the 76th minute but still could not register a shot. Grace Baldwin recorded Milligan's second shot in the final minute of play.
Walcott finished with eight saves. Mia Brown made one stop in 23 minutes of relief.
The Buffs travel to West Virginia Tech for their final nonconference game on Saturday.
