Women’s Soccer closes in on AAC Tournament bid with 7-1 win at Bluefield
BLUEFIELD, W.Va. (October 26, 2022) – The Milligan University women’s soccer team picked up an important 7-1 Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) victory over Bluefield on Wednesday evening.
BLUEFIELD, W.Va. (October 26, 2022) – The Milligan University women's soccer team picked up an important 7-1 Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) victory over Bluefield on Wednesday evening.
The Buffs advanced to 4-8-3 on the season and 3-7-2 in AAC action. Bluefield remains winless on the season. Milligan moves into a tie for ninth in the AAC standings with St. Andrews with one league game remaining. The top 10 teams qualify for the AAC Tournament.
Milligan scored six of its seven goals in the first half. Audra Morgan led the Milligan offensive with three goals in the game's first 31 minutes.
Morgan tallied a pair of goals in the game's first 10 minutes. She scored off a corner kick from Ashlen Burch in the eighth minute and scored less than a minute later off a feed from Kelsey Miller.
Alex Thomas joined the scoring in the 18th minute as her header off another corner kick from Burch was tucked inside the left post for her first goal of the season.
Burch cashed in with a goal of her own in the 23rd minute after she intercepted a pass on the Bluefield back line and beat the Bluefield keeper one-on-one to make it 4-0 Buffs.
Morgan put in her third goal of the evening in the 31st minute as she tracked down a deflected cross and beat the Bluefield keeper.
Emma True scored her first collegiate goal in the 39th minute off a corner kick by Taylor Dawson. True's tally gave the Buffs a 6-0 advantage.
At the halftime break, Milligan owned a 14-0 edge in shots and held a 7-0 advantage in corner kicks.
McKinna Murr opened the second half scoring by tapping in a rebound after a shot by Kori Barnhill was saved to give Milligan a 7-0 in the 52nd minute.
Bluefield got on the scoreboard in the final 10 minutes of regulation to make it a 7-1 game.
The Buffs outshot Bluefield 20-4 (14-2 SOG) and recorded all 10 corner kicks in the game.
Milligan hosts Johnson (Tenn.) on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. at Anglin Field.
