Women’s Soccer falls to Columbia 2-1

MILLIGAN, Tenn. (October 15, 2022) – The Milligan University women's soccer fell to Columbia (S.C.) 2-1 at Anglin Field on Saturday.
The game served as the first-ever Greene Game on campus in conjunction with Carter County Bank and Bank of Tennessee. The Buffs fall to 2-7-3, 1-6-2 in Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) action. Columbia rises to 5-4-2, 4-4-1 AAC.
The Koalas started the game on the offensive as Lauren Davies had to make a pair of saves in the first 10 minutes and Columbia had a shot hit the crossbar in the 10th minute.
Columbia scored in the game's 23rd minute as the Koalas had a corner kick go directly into the goal.
The Koalas led 1-0 at the half and held the Buffs without a shot on goal until the 65th minute. Autumn Daniels had a shot hit the crossbar and collected her own rebound. She centered the ball to Taylor Dawson, who scored her first goal of the season.
Following the Buffs' goal, Milligan staved off three corner kicks from the 68th to 70th minutes and one Koala attempt hit the crossbar.
Columbia retook the lead in the 77th minute as the Koalas scored on a breakaway. Ashlen Burch fired a shot on frame less than a minute later but her attempt was saved.
Ella Sawa found Kelsey Miller for a left-angled shot in the 82nd minute but her attempt was thwarted.
The Buffs made several late pushes in the waning moments of regulation with a late corner kick and free kick but went without an attempt on frame.
The Koalas outshot Milligan 11-8 and held a 7-3 edge in shots on goal. Columbia accounted for seven of the nine corner kicks on the day.
Milligan travels to St. Andrews on Wednesday.
