Women’s Soccer rolls to 5-0 victory over WVU Tech in season opener
MILLIGAN, Tenn. (August 20, 2022) – The Milligan University women’s soccer team opened its 2022 campaign with a convincing 5-0 victory over WVU Tech at Anglin Field on Saturday afternoon. The win marked the first victory at Milligan for head coach John Newbery.

In the ninth minute, a through ball freed up freshman Kelsey Miller whose shot at the top of the 18-yard box trickled just wide left of the goal. Two minutes later, a pass from Ella Sawa set Miller free from the pack with possession and she sent home Milligan's first goal of the season.
Miller struck again in the 19th minute as Sawa again set Miller up the right sideline. She outraced the defenders and fired a shot past the WVU Tech goalie.
Ashlen Burch scored in the 51st and 53rd minute. Taylor Dawson found Burch at the top of the box and Burch booted a well-aimed shot for her first goal of the season. Burch scored the most impressive goal of the day after receiving a ball at the top of the box from Hannah Chatterton and banging just inside the right post.
Audra Morgan scored the fifth goal of the day for Milligan in the 66th minute after a ball ahead from Danielle Calhoun.
In total, the Buffs amassed a 25-9 advantage in shots and a 14-5 edge in shots on goal.
Lauren Davies made five saves in the shutout win. She snatched a point-blank WVU attempt off the goal line in the 22nd minute after a ricochet off the left post gave the Golden Bears their best chance of the day.
Miller and Burch each scored twice and Morgan had one goal. All five of the Buffs goals were assisted. Sawa had two assists on the day.
Milligan hosts Thomas More on Wednesday evening at 5:00 p.m.
