Women’s Soccer stopped by No. 21 Truett McConnell

MILLIGAN, Tenn. (October 10, 2021) – The Milligan University women's soccer team fell to No. 21-ranked Truett McConnell 5-0 at Anglin Field on Tuesday evening.

The Buffs fell to 4-5 on the season and 3-4 in Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) play. Truett McConnell moved to 10-1 and remained unbeaten at 7-0 in league play.

Truett McConnell scored in the fourth, ninth and 16th minutes of the first half and carried that 3-0 lead to halftime.

Shelby Knight (30th minute) and Ashlen Burch (34th minute) each fired a shot on frame in the first half, but both attempts were denied by TMU's goalkeeper.

Lauren Davies made five first-half saves to keep the Bears off the scoreboard for nearly 30 minutes to close out the first half.

Truett McConnell added second-half goals in the 56th and 73rd minutes.

Ellie Cachiaras nearly scored in the 49th and 60th minutes with long runs towards the goal with the ball. He breakaway attempt in the 49th minute sailed wide left, and her close-range shot in the 60th was stopped by the Bears' keeper.

Cachiaras tracked down a ball played forward by Taylor Dawson and fired a sliding shot from the right side that sailed wide to the right in the 68th minute.

Davies made an athletic save on an attempt following a corner kick in the 71st minute and denied a breakaway attempt in the 76th.

Makenna Oiler sent a well-placed free kick into the penalty area in 88th minute but nobody was able to redirect it into the goal.

TMU outshot Milligan 10-8 (14-5 SOG). Davies made nine saves in the game.

The Buffs travel to CIU on Saturday for a 5:00 p.m. kickoff.
