MILLIGAN, Tenn. (Oct. 3, 2020) – Senior Ellie Cachiaras scored in the opening minute of the game before finding the back of the net three more times to lead the Milligan University women's soccer team to a 4-1 win over Columbia College Saturday on Anglin Field.
The win marked a snap to the Buffaloes' shutout streak of three games but represented their fourth straight win to open the season. During this time, Milligan has outscored opponents 17-1.
Career day for senior Buff
Cachiaras' career day brought her season tally to an Appalachian Athletic Conference-leading six goals. She has scored 12 now in her career.
Senior Madison Hodges provided the assist on Cachiaras' first goal, sending a pass in from the left side that found Cachiaras open near the top of the penalty area. Cachiaras made it count from close range to break open the game's scoring just 54 seconds in.
Thirty-five minutes later, Cachiaras showed her range and scored what proved to be the winner. Alex Thomas earned the assist on a pass that found Cachiaras open several yards outside the penalty area, and Cachiaras made this one count as well, blasting it past Columbia goalkeeper Jennifer Angeles.
Milligan led 2-0 at the halftime break before Cachiaras matched her scoring effort in the second half. Her third goal came in the 49th minute after a hustle play by Ashlen Burch allowed Cachiaras to scoop up a loose ball in front of an empty net. Nineteen minutes later, Cachiaras got another loose ball attempt after rebounding her own shot.
