MILLIGAN, Tenn. (Sept. 19, 2020) – After a scoreless first half, the Milligan University women's soccer team made all the right adjustments at the break to pull away with a 3-0 win over visiting Point University Saturday afternoon on Anglin Field.
The win marked Milligan's second straight decision of 3-0 as the Buffs remained perfect with two clean sheets to start the 2020 season.
Freshman Ella Sawa broke open the game's scoring early in the second half to give the Buffs all the scoring they would need. Alex Thomas earned the assist with the free kick which Sawa headed in from close range to make it 1-0.
Annika Oiler doubled the lead in the 67th minute, scoring a goal off a partial deflection that saw Ellie Cachiaras earn the assist. Twenty minutes later, Cachiaras scored a goal of her own on a breakaway where she beat Point goalkeeper Erica Burkhardt and scored on an empty net.
"It was a good overall team performance," Head Coach Lisa Buckley said on the victory. "Isabella Cranford was a rock in the back for us, and it was nice to see Ella Sawa come on and make an impact."
Already this season, the Buffs have six goals coming from six goal scorers. Oiler's was the second of her career while Cachiaras scored for the seventh of her career.
Up next, Milligan hosts Kentucky Christian on Wednesday, Sept. 30, at 7 p.m. The Buffs will be on the road for their next three matches after that.
