Cundiff’s hat trick propels Milligan past Brenau
Senior Bekah Cundiff recorded her first hat trick of the season, and the Milligan College women’s soccer team defeated Appalachian Athletic Conference member Brenau University 4-2 Saturday afternoon at Anglin Field. With today’s win, the Buffs advance to 8-2-1 in conference and are tied in third place with Reinhardt.
MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Oct. 19, 2019) – Senior Bekah Cundiff recorded her first hat trick of the season, and the Milligan College women's soccer team defeated Appalachian Athletic Conference member Brenau University 4-2 Saturday afternoon at Anglin Field. With today's win, the Buffs advance to 8-2-1 in conference and are tied in third place with Reinhardt.
All of the goals were made in the second half as both teams went into halftime 0-0. Cundiff came out of the half quick scoring her first goal in the 49th minute. Cundiff would find the back of the net only five minutes later with assists from Ashlen Burch and Alyson McMillan. Burch received the ball and passed it to McMillian at the top of the box who then shot it in to Cundiff who was able to score. Cundiff scored her third goal with an assist by Hannah Chatterton, to complete the hat trick in the 62nd minute and give the Buffs a 3-0 lead with 28 minutes left in the game.
Ellie Cachiaras would add onto the lead by scoring a goal of her own in the 79th minute. Audra Morgan kicked the ball to Cachiaras from the top of the box and Cachiaras worked past the defenders to find the back of the net.
The Golden Tigers worked to avoid a shutout with two goals by Cindy Bonilla. Bonilla's first goal came in the 66th minute and her second came in the 85th minute to cut the Buffs lead in half. However, that was all of the scoring that Milligan would allow.
Milligan outshot Brenau 28-15 with 17 shots on frame. Cundiff had four shots with all four on goal, and Burch, McMillan and Morgan all had four shots as well with two of their four all being on goal. Milligan forced Brenau goalkeeper Daphne Ramirez to make 12 saves on the day.
Up next, Milligan travels to AAC newcomer Kentucky Christian on Wednesday, Oct. 23, for their first of their last two regular season games. The Buffs then return home next Saturday, Oct. 26, for their final regular season home match against Bryan which will also be senior night.
