Burch’s hat trick leads Buffs to victory
Ashlen Burch contributed over half of the goals on the night to help the Milligan College women’s soccer team defeat St. Andrews 7-1 in an Appalachian Athletic Conference matchup on Anglin Field Wednesday night.

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Oct. 9, 2019) – Ashlen Burch contributed over half of the goals on the night to help the Milligan College women's soccer team defeat St. Andrews 7-1 in an Appalachian Athletic Conference matchup on Anglin Field Wednesday night.
The first goal of the night came nine minutes into the game with Burch scoring from an assist by Bekah Cundiff. Cundiff fed Burch the ball from the top of the box and Burch drove into the box and shot her goal. Cundiff then turned around and got a goal of her own two minutes later with an assist by Alyson McMillan. McMillian attempted to kick a goal in but her shot was deflected by St. Andrews' goalie Kaitlin Locklear. McMillian got the ball back and kicked it to Cundiff who had an open shot.
Burch would then go on to score two more times in the first half within one minute of each other in the 24th and the 25th minute. Danielle Calhoun assisted in Burch's third goal. St. Andrews got themselves on the scoreboard with a goal by Caitlin Hill in the 28th minute to make the score 4-1 going into the second half.
In the second half three different Buffs found the back of the net to add to Milligan's lead. Dharma Fawbush scored the first goal of the half in the 59th minute, Burch scored her fourth goal with assists from McMillan and Cundiff in the 65th minute, and Calhoun scored the last goal of the night in the 72nd minute with an assist by Alex Thomas.
Milligan took 34 shots on the night with 17 on goal. Burch led with seven shots, Cundiff with five and McMillan and Fawbush with four. The Milligan offense forced Locklear to make 10 saves. Milligan goalkeepers combined for five saves, Lauren Davies with one and Asia Baldwin with four.
Up next, Milligan plays another home match on Saturday against Bluefield College. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. with men's to follow at 5 p.m.
