MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Aug. 29, 2019) – The Milligan College women's soccer team dropped the season opening match 6-0 to North Greenville on Thursday at Anglin Field.
North Greenville outshot Milligan 9-2 in the first half and 11-4 in the second half. The Crusaders scored two goals in the first half and four in the second. North Greenville scored their first goal 16 minutes into the game by Shelby Shepherd. Shepherd then scored their second goal of the game six minutes after that.
"We really struggled to assert ourselves in today's game and struggled to maintain possession," Head Coach Lisa Buckley said. "I have no doubt that this team is talented, and today's game was not a reflection of who we are. I'm confident that with the leadership we have, we can bounce back."
The Buffs tried to find ways to score as five separate Buffs took shot attempts on the goal. Ellie Cachiaras led the team with shot attempts with two. Milligan goalkeeper Lauren Davies had six saves on the night, while opposing goalie, Brianna Rose had one.
Up next, the Buffs will be on the road for a match against USC Beaufort on Monday, Sept. 2, and will return home for another nonconference match against Lindsey Wilson on Saturday, Sept. 7, before opening Appalachian Athletic Conference play at Point University on Saturday, Sept. 14.
