No. 15 Buffs Women’s Golf Topples Two Ranked Opponents at Gibson Bay Match Play
RICHMOND, Ky. — On Monday and Tuesday, the No. 15-ranked Milligan University women's golf program took part in the Gibson Bay Match Play event, hosted by Lindsey Wilson College. The Buffs faced off head-to-head against three other programs for three full rounds, ultimately finishing with a 2-1 record against them.
The first round that the Buffs had was against Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) foe, No. 17-ranked Truett McConnell. After a hard-fought 18 holes, the Buffs squeaked by with a 3-2 triumph. Kate Castle, Sarah Castle and Liz Miller managed victories over their respective counterparts.
In round two, Milligan went toe-to-toe with No. 10-ranked Lindsey Wilson, but fell just short. The Buffaloes lost 4-1 to the hosting squad, as S. Castle was the lone victor from the squad in the matchup.
Finally, the third round was a tilt with another highly-ranked outfit, as the Buffs matched up with No. 9-ranked Dalton State. This time, though, Milligan fared much better. They came away with a 3-2 triumph over the Ravens. K. Castle, Mallory TeVrucht and Miller earned head-to-head wins to get the squad to 2-1 for the event.
The Gibson Bay Match Play event was the final tuneup for the women's squad before their AAC Fall Championships competition in Acworth, Ga. on Oct. 21-22.
