Kate Castle earns All-Tournament Team honors; Women's Golf places fifth
OLD HICKORY, Tenn. (April 10, 2024) - Milligan University women's golf held its own at the Music City Classic, placing fifth in a field of highly-ranked teams from across the NAIA.
OLD HICKORY, Tenn. (April 10, 2024) - Milligan University women's golf held its own at the Music City Classic, placing fifth in a field of highly-ranked teams from across the NAIA.
The two-day tournament was held at Hermitage Golf Course General's Retreat in Old Hickory, Tenn., and hosted by Cumberland University (Tenn.).
Eleven of the 12 teams competing are ranked or received votes in the latest NAIA Women's Golf Coaches' Poll. The 19th-ranked Buffs battled against No. 2 Keiser University (Fla.), No. 7 Southeastern University (Fla.), No. 9 Marian University (Ind.), No. 13 University of Cumberlands (Ky.), No. 20 St. Thomas University (Fla.), No. 22 Cumberland, No. 23 University of Tennessee Southern, and No. 24 Rocky Mountain University (Mont.) as well as Coastal Georgia College and University of Northwestern Ohio which received votes.
Milligan placed fifth with a three-round score 65-over 929, finishing behind Keiser, Marian, Southeastern, and Cumberlands.
Kate Castle led the Buffaloes with a third-place showing to earn a spot on the All-Tournament Team. She fired a 6-over 222, finishing behind Hoi Ki Lau and Mohea Mansbendel - both of Keiser.
Mallory TeVrucht tied for 25th with a 17-over 233, and Sarah Castle finished tied for 43rd with a 23-over 239.
Milligan now turns its attention to the AAC/Direct Qualifier Tournament, which is set for Monday and Tuesday at the Atlanta Governors Towne Club in Acworth, Ga.
