Women's Golf opens spring schedule with third-place showing

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (March 12, 2024) - The Milligan University women's golf team kicked off its spring schedule with a third-place finish at the Converse Spring Invitational presented by Founders FCU on Tuesday.
The two-day event was hosted by Converse College (S.C.) at the Carolina Country Club in Spartanburg, S.C.
The Buffaloes were the only NAIA squad competing as the rest of the field were made up of NCAA Division II teams.
Milligan wrapped up Monday's first round in first with a four-stroke lead over the field. The Buffaloes put together a team score of 323.
During the final round, Milligan fired a 333 and dropped to a tie for third with Trevecca Nazarene University (Tenn.) and UNC-Pembroke (N.C.) as all three finished with an 80-over 656.
North Greenville University (S.C.) won the event with a 67-over 643 with Lander University (S.C.) taking second with a 76-652.
Individually, Gabby Hammond led Milligan with a ninth-place finish as she shot a 15-over 159. Kate Castle was next in line for the Buffaloes, finishing tied for 12th with an 18-over 162.
Mallory TeVrucht tied for 25th with a 22-over 166.
Milligan returns to the links on March 22-23 when it takes part in the LTU Heritage Hill Collegiate, which is hosted by Lawrence Tech University (Mich.). The tournament will be played at Heritage Hill Golf Course in Shepherdsville, Ky.
