Women’s Golf concludes successful fall season
MILLIGAN, Tenn. (November 21, 2023) – The Milligan University women’s golf team had an outstanding fall season capturing two tournament championships and recording five top-three finishes.
MILLIGAN, Tenn. (November 21, 2023) – The Milligan University women's golf team had an outstanding fall season capturing two tournament championships and recording five top-three finishes.
The Buffs are ranked No. 26 according to the latest Clippd College Golf Rankings. Milligan won the East Tennessee Collegiate and the Southern Virginia Knights Invitational. At the Phoenix Invitational the Buffs broke the school record for the lowest 18-hole round (-1) 287, the lowest 36 hole (Even) 576 and the lowest 54-hole score(+4) 868. Along the way, Milligan defeated 5 nationally ranked Top 25 teams.
Kate Castle and Sarah Castle led the way for the Buffs individually. Kate Castle is ranked #54 nationally with a 74.5 scoring average and Sarah Castle is ranked #88 with a 75.6 scoring average. Sarah Castle set Milligan's single-round mark with a (-5) 211 performance at the 54-hole Phoenix Invitational. She also set the 18-hole, 36-hole, and 54-hole round individual records at that event. She matched the MU single-round mark with a (-3) 69 and followed it with a (-4) 68 in round two and shot (+2) 74 in the third round. Kate Castle also tied Milligan's single round record of 68 at the Phoenix Invitational.
The Buffs had four different players earn all-tournament honors during the fall season. Kate Castle led the way with four all-tournament performances in six events. Sarah Castle earned three all-tournament honors, Gabby Hammond and Mallory TeVrucht each earned all-tournament once.
The Buffs had six players with tournament averages in the 70's. Kate Castle (74.5, 13 rounds), Sarah Castle (75.6, 13 rounds), Hammond (77.6, 13 rounds), TeVrucht (78.1, 13 rounds), Liz Miller (79.1, 6 rounds) and Bailey McGaha (79.3, 13 rounds).
Milligan will open the spring season on March 11 at the Founders Federal Credit Union Spring Invitational at The Carolina Country Club in Spartanburg, SC.
