Kate Castle and No. 9 Women’s Golf win at SVU Knights Invitational
LEXINGTON, Va. (October 10, 2023) – Kate Castle and the No. 9 Milligan University women’s golf team ran away with the individual and team titles at the Southern Virginia University Knights Invitational at the Lexington Golf and Country Club on Tuesday.
LEXINGTON, Va. (October 10, 2023) – Kate Castle and the No. 9 Milligan University women's golf team ran away with the individual and team titles at the Southern Virginia University Knights Invitational at the Lexington Golf and Country Club on Tuesday.
The Buffs won the team title by 43 strokes as Milligan had the low round on both days to finish at 608 strokes (300-308). The rest of the field was comprised of NCAA Division III opponents with Bridgewater finishing as the runner-up at 651 strokes and host Southern Virginia placing third at 652.
All six of Milligan's players finished in the top 14 in the 51-player field.
Castle claimed medalist honors for the second time in her career as she won the 36-hole tournament by seven strokes with a two-round total of (-1) 143. Castle shot (-1) 71 in the opening round and followed it with an even-par 72 on Tuesday.
Sarah Castle was third at 152 strokes after posting a 74 on Monday. Mallory TeVrucht tied for fourth with 153 strokes (74-79).
Liz Miller notched a sixth-place finish after shooting 79 in both rounds. Gabby Hammond teid for ninth at 160 strokes. Bailey McGaha tied for 14th at 164.
Milligan led the field in pars (105) and birdies (18). Both Castles had 25 pars to lead all players. Kate Castle's six birdies led the field.
Milligan returns to action in two weeks at the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Fall Preview at The Windermere Club in South Carolina.
