Sarah Castle honored as AAC Women’s Golfer of the Week
WALESKA, Ga. (September 15, 2023) – Milligan University junior Sarah Castle was honored as the Appalachian Athletic Conference Women’s Golfer of the Week after claiming medalist honors in record-setting fashion at the Phoenix Invitational last week.

In a field with five top-25 teams, Castle topped the 47-player field at the Pine Creek Golf Course at five strokes under par. Castle set Milligan's single-round (68), two-round (137) and 54-hole (211) individual records. Castle accumulated 37 pars and 11 birdies in her record-setting effort.
As a team, Milligan set 18-, 36- and 54-hole records at the event. The Buffs opened the tournament with the first under-par round in team history at (-1) 287. The Buffs shot one-over in the second round and finished at (+4) 868 strokes.
Kate Castle also enjoyed an outstanding tournament. She matched Sarah Castle's (-4) 68 in the final round of the tournament to finish tied for second at 212 strokes after shooting even-par in the first two rounds.
Milligan finished second of eight teams in the tournament and placed above No. 8 Cumberlands, No. 16 Cumberland, No. 19 Lindsey Wilson and (RV) UT Southern.
Milligan golf hosts the East Tennessee Collegiate at the Johnson City Country Club next week.
