Women’s Golf makes the cut with top round two score at NAIA National Championship
SILVIS, Ill. (May 24, 2023) – The No. 10 Milligan University women’s golf team made the cut at the NAIA National Championship for the fourth time in program history as the Buffs posted the best round two score at TPC Deere Run on Tuesday.
SILVIS, Ill. (May 24, 2023) – The No. 10 Milligan University women's golf team made the cut at the NAIA National Championship for the fourth time in program history as the Buffs posted the best round two score at TPC Deere Run on Tuesday.
After shooting a 315 in Monday's first round, the Buffs sat in 12th place in the 30-team field. The Buffs topped Tuesday's team leaderboard with a 302 in round two, the third-lowest round by any team over the first 36 holes of the tournament. Milligan jumped six spots into the team standings to sixth place at 617 strokes.
Kate Castle played her way into the top five as she was Tuesday's individual round leader with an even-par 71. Castle notched three birdies and 12 pars in the rounds and shot even-par in both the front nine and back nine. She sits in a four-way tie for fourth place at 148 strokes.
Gabby Hammond made one of the largest gains in the entire field with a plus-two 73 on Tuesday. Hammond used a stretch of four-straight early birdies and a run of nine-consecutive pars to move up to 14th place at 152 total strokes.
Sarah Castle followed an opening round 79 with a 78 on Tuesday. She sits in 44th place at 157 strokes. Alayna Perryman and Mallory TeVrucht both used rounds of 80 to contribute to the team score in the first and second round, respectively.
Through the first two rounds, the Buffs rank second overall with 20 combined birdies.
Milligan continues with the third round the NAIA National Championship tomorrow.
