Kate Castle and No. 11 Women’s Golf win titles at AAC Fall Preview
GREENEVILLE, Tenn. (October 25, 2022) – Sophomore Kate Castle and No. 11 Milligan University women’s golf team took home tournament titles at the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Fall Preview at the Link Hills Country Club on Monday and Tuesday.
GREENEVILLE, Tenn. (October 25, 2022) – Sophomore Kate Castle and No. 11 Milligan University women's golf team took home tournament titles at the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Fall Preview at the Link Hills Country Club on Monday and Tuesday.
Milligan opened the 10-team tournament with the lowest round for any team at the event as the Buffs recorded a team score of 297 to lead by 19 strokes after the opening round. Milligan finished with 607 strokes to finish six strokes ahead of No. 17 SCAD Atlanta and nine strokes in front of No. 16 Truett McConnell.
Castle set Milligan's single-round and 36-hole tournament records as she became the first Milligan women's golfer to break 70 with a three-under 69 on Monday. She followed up with a 74 on Tuesday to finish at minus-one 143 to take medalist honors by two strokes.
Alayna Perryman turned in an even-par 72 on Monday and finished sixth at 150 strokes total.
Gabby Hammond scored 79 in both her rounds to finish tied for 13th at 158. Mallory TeVrucht was 16th at 159 strokes (77-82). Sarah Castle and Gracie Johns made it six Buffs in the top 20 as the duo tied for 18th at 162 strokes.
Milligan will return to Link Hills in the spring for the AAC Spring Championship/NAIA Direct Qualifier. The Buffs' two fall rounds will count toward the regular conference championship. The AAC Fall Preview marks the end of Milligan's fall golf schedule, the Buffs will return to action in spring 2023.
