No. 13 Women's Golf earns runner-up finish at AAC Spring Championship/NAIA Direct Qualifier; Meryl Castle and Alayna Perryman earn all-tournament honors
ADAIRSVILLE, Ga. (May 3, 2022) – The No. 13 Milligan University women’s golf team finished second at the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Spring Championship and NAIA Direct Qualifier at the Barnsley Gardens Resort on Tuesday.
ADAIRSVILLE, Ga. (May 3, 2022) – The No. 13 Milligan University women's golf team finished second at the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Spring Championship and NAIA Direct Qualifier at the Barnsley Gardens Resort on Tuesday.
Milligan recorded a two-day score of 626 to finish second behind No. 21 Truett McConnell, who captured the AAC's automatic bid to the NAIA National Championships with a team score of 615. Milligan's day two score of 310 matched Truett McConnell's for the lowest in the round. The Buffs finished 17 strokes ahead of third-place No. 12 SCAD Atlanta.
Meryl Castle followed her opening-round 75 with a 77 on Tuesday to finish tied for second place in the 49-golfer field at 152 strokes. Her performance netted her all-tournament status.
Alayna Perryman secured her ninth top-five individual finish as she logged the second-lowest score of round two (76) to finish at 154 strokes, good for an all-tournament finish in fifth place.
Sarah Castle and Kate Castle tied for 12th with 161 strokes. Sarah Castle was the tournament's biggest round two riser as she jumped 11 spots to with day two score of 77, the third best score of the day.
Gabby Hammond finished 21st at 168 strokes.
The AAC also handed out its all-conference awards at the Spring Championship. Perryman was awarded All-AAC First Team honors for the second-straigth season. Meryl Castle and Kate Castle both received All-AAC Second Team status.
Milligan can earn an at-large spot in the 2022 NAIA Women's Golf National Championship. The tournament field is slated for a May 12 release.
