No. 14 Women’s Golf wins Eagle Invitational at Griffin Gate
LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 5, 2022) – The No. 14 Milligan University women’s golf team posted a round two team score of 305 to win its second tournament of the year as the Buffs captured the team title at the Midway University Eagle Invitational at Griffin Gate Golf Course on Tuesday.
LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 5, 2022) – The No. 14 Milligan University women's golf team posted a round two team score of 305 to win its second tournament of the year as the Buffs captured the team title at the Midway University Eagle Invitational at Griffin Gate Golf Course on Tuesday.
Milligan entered the second round four strokes behind No. 17 Indiana Wesleyan and won the event by five strokes with a two-round total of 612 (307-305). The Buffs had the second and third lowest rounds of the tourney to finish ahead of Indiana Wesleyan, No. 22 Northwestern Ohio and (RV) Marian.
Senior Alayna Perryman led the charge with a runner-up showing at 149 strokes (74-75). The Eagle Invitational marks her seventh all-tournament honor this year.
Senior Meryl Castle logged her best showing of the season with a third-place finish and all-tournament honors as she tied for the lowest round of day two with an even-par 72 on Tuesday. She finished at 151 strokes (75-77) and jumped from 11th to third in the final leaderboard.
Sarah Castle notched at top-10 finish as she tied for 10th with a two-day total of 157 (75-82). Kate Castle finished 21st with 161 strokes and Gabby Hammond moved up seven spots to notch at top-25 finish at 162 strokes.
Milligan hosts the Empire Mountain Intercollegiate next week at the Elizabethton Golf Club.
