Jenny Simonsen wins East Tennessee Collegiate with second-best 36-hole score in program history
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (September 28, 2021) – Senior Jenny Simonsen posted lowest 36-hole score tournament total in Milligan women's golf history as she won the East Tennessee Collegiate by four strokes on Tuesday afternoon.
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (September 28, 2021) – Senior Jenny Simonsen posted the second-lowest 36-hole score tournament total in Milligan women's golf history as she won the East Tennessee Collegiate by four strokes on Tuesday afternoon.
Simonsen entered the second day of the tournament in a three-way tie for first after shooting an even-par 72 on Monday. She carded the lowest score of the day with a one-over 73 to finish the tournament with a two-day score of 145, four strokes ahead of second place.
Simonsen's one-over 145 surpassed the previous Milligan record of 146 achieved by Cassidy Gibson in 2016 and Michaela Lindahl in 2019 and sits one stroke behind teammate Alayna Perryman's 144 that she shot earlier this year at Jekyll Island.. She is the eighth women's golf medalist in program history.
As a team, Milligan finished second overall out of 12 teams at the event with a 36-hole score of 628 (318-310). The Buffs' round two 310 matched SCAD Atlanta for the lowest round at the event. SCAD Atlanta took home the team title by three strokes.
Perryman joined Simonsen on the All-Tournament team after she tied for third at 150 strokes (76-74).
Seniors Emma Brown and Izzy Griggs both jumped into top 10 finishes with solid day two performances. Brown tied for eighth after she posted a 78 for a two-day total of 157. Griggs was the largest riser in round two, jumping nine spots to finish tied for 10th after a 77 put her at 158 strokes for the tournament.
Freshman Sarah Castle led Milligan's "B" team with a 158 strokes (78-80) to finish tied for 10th as well.
Hannah Goodwin and Kate Castle tied for 19th at 163 strokes.
Women's golf returns to action with the Cavalier Shootout, hosted by UVA Wise on October 11.
