Perryman captures individual title; No. 10 Buffs take second at season-opening Coastal Georgia Fall Invite
JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. (September 14, 2021) – Alayna Perryman claimed medalist honors and the No. 10 Milligan University women’s golf team earned a runner-up finish at the Coastal Georgia Fall Invite at Jekyll Island on Tuesday.
JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. (September 14, 2021) – Alayna Perryman claimed medalist honors and the No. 10 Milligan University women's golf team earned a runner-up finish at the Coastal Georgia Fall Invite at Jekyll Island on Tuesday.
The Buffs followed up a first round 308 with another 308 in the second round on the Par-72, 5,978 yard course to finish with a two-round total of 616 strokes. Southeastern, the No. 3 team in the NAIA's Preseason Top 25 poll, shot a tournament-best 300 on day two to earn the team win by five strokes. Milligan finished two strokes ahead of South Carolina Beaufort and 11 strokes better than St. Thomas (Fla.), both of whom received votes in the top 25 poll. No. 22 Coastal Georgia took fifth with a team total of 644.
Perryman captured her second career individual medalist honor with an even-par 144 to win the two-day event by four strokes. After shooting one-under 71 on day one, she followed it with a one-over 73. She posted 13 pars and a pair of birdies in her Tuesday performance.
Freshman Kate Castle fired a three-over 75 to finish with a two-day total of 155 to finish ninth.
Jenny Simonsen shot 79 while Meryl Castle posted an 81 on Tuesday as both players finished at 160 strokes, good for 15th.
Emma Brown carded a 36-hole total of 162 to finish 19th and Izzy Griggs shot 166 to finish 25th as the Buffs' placed all six competitors in the top half of the 57-golfer field.
The No. 10 Buffs return to action Sept. 27-28 when they host the East Tennessee Collegiate at the Johnson City Country Club.
