Four Buffs named WGCA All-American Scholars
CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. (July 7, 2021) – Four Milligan University women's golfers were named All-American Scholars by the Women's Golf Coaches Association on Tuesday.
CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. (July 7, 2021) – Four Milligan University women's golfers were named All-American Scholars by the Women's Golf Coaches Association on Tuesday.
Junior Alayna Perryman, junior Jenny Simonsen, sophomore Michaela Lindahl and freshman Gabby Hammond all received the distinguished honor for the 2020-21 academic and athletic year.
For Perryman and Lindahl, the award marks the second consecutive year both players have earned All-American Scholar status. The duo continues to reel in accolades as they were two of 21 players named as WGCA All-Americans and collected All-America honors from the NAIA.
With high academic and athletic standards, the WGCA All-American Scholar award is one of the most stringent academic awards across all of college athletics.
To be tabbed as a member of the WGCA All-American Scholar Team, a golfer must maintain a 3.50 or better cumulative grade point average and participate in 50% of her team's competitions over the course of the 2020-21 season.
As a team in 2020-21, the Buffs made their fourth appearance at the NAIA Women's Golf National Championship in the last five seasons. Milligan won the direct qualifier by 29 strokes and swept the AAC Fall and Spring championships for the third time since 2015. At the NAIA national championships, the Buffs placed 10th, the top finish in program history.
A total of 1,432 women's collegiate golfers earned All-American Scholar status in 2020-21. Milligan led the Appalachian Athletic Conference with four selections.
