Milligan Women's Bowling Reaches No. 3 Seed, Match Play Finals at Venerable Hoosier Classic
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - On Saturday and Sunday, the Milligan University women's bowling squad took part in the Tier 1 Hoosier Classic in Indianapolis. After a slow first day, sitting in the middle of the field of 65 squads, the Buffaloes surged through Baker games to get all the way up to the No. 3 seed entering the Match Play Finals. The squad ended up failling 2-1 in their first matchup in the finals.
The event included five team games on day one, followed by 15 Bakers on the second day of the tournament. After the first team game, the Buffs were sitting in 28th, having compiled just 913 pins. Luckily, they turned things around and ended up with a highly respectable 4,945 pins after the five games. Then, a massive day in the 15 Baker games helped propel them to third place after having the largest Baker score of any attending team at 3,370. The had a program-record single Baker game of 276 in the very first game, while also sporting a record 224.6 average for the totality of the Bakers.
Emily Cheesman was the standout individual, as she placed fifth to be a part of the All-Tournament Team. She had an individual total of 1,111 pins for the event, averaging 222.2. She sported a top game of 237 pins in her fourth team game.
The Buffs' next finisher was Laci MacQuisten, who placed 63rd with 979 pins and a 195.8 average. Her best game came in the third team game, where she bowled a 236.
The squad entered Match Play after earning the No. 3 seed, and fell to Judson University by a 2-1 tally in the first matchup of the finals.
After an impressive performance in Indiana, Milligan now looks ahead to the Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) Championships on Feb. 21-22 in Savannah, Ga.
