King Achieves Individual Title at Glenn Carlson Las Vegas Invitational, Squad Places 3rd/4th
LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The Milligan University women's bowling squad continued their 2024-25 campaign at the Tier 1 Glenn Carlson Las Vegas Invitational on Wednesday and Thursday. It was a wildly successful event for the team, as they posted a third/fourth-place result as a group out of the 38 attending programs. Additionally, Emily King became the individual champion out of 233 varsity women's bowlers.
The format included eight team games for the women, as the Buffaloes finished with 8,246 pins and had a top score of 1,096 pins in their seventh team game, which is a new program record for a single team game. They averaged 1,030.75 pins per game to place them just 124 pins shy of the team championship during team games in runner-up position. Following the team games, the women went to match play, as well.
King had a standout event, toppling 1,809 pins during team games to average an unreal 226.13 pins per game. She had 73 more pins than any other competitor, with a high score of 279 in her first team game en route to the title position on the podium and all-tournament team plaudits. Her 279 also made her the program's record holder for highest single team game score.
Taylor Davis' 1,677-pin total was strong enough to earn her 13th-place honors as an individual, with an average of 209.63 for the tourney. Her best output came in team game number six, in which she knocked down 226 pins.
Allison Robbins was also in the top 100 for the Buffs, finishing in 65th with a total of 1,440 pins through seven team games that she participated in. She averaged 205.71 pins on the tournament, while posting a high score of 237 pins in the third team game.
The five bowlers who were a part of the record-breaking 1,096 team game were King, Davis, Robbins, Emilee Horton and Emily Cheesman.
After the team games, the Buffs battled in the match play portion of the tournament, where they beat Spring Arbor 3-2 to open things before a loss 1-3 to St. Xavier in the second round to place in the 3rd/4th position
The Buffaloes' trip to Las Vegas continues on Friday and Saturday, as they will now compete in the two-day Tier 1 Collegiate Shoot-out to round out the 2024 portion of their schedule.
