Cheesman Posts All-Tournament Finish, Lady Buffs Bowling Places Fifth at National Collegiate Team Match Games
FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS, Ill. – On Saturday and Sunday, the Milligan University women's bowling team continued its 2024-25 season at the Tier 1 National Collegiate Team Match Games in Fairview Heights, Ill. Overall the Milligan varsity squad ended up with a fifth-place showing out of 19 attending squads, with Emily Cheesman finishing third as an individual.
The tournament consisted of five team games and 20 baker games, with the Lady Buffs scoring 4,424 pins in team games and 3,361 in baker games. Their overall total was 7,785 pins.
Cheesman had another standout performance over the weekend, notching All-Tournament honors with a third-place finish. She tallied 979 pins in the combined five team games, including a top score of 223 pins in game two. She posted a tournament average of 195.8.
Olivia VanHooser nabbed an 18th-place finish as a member of the Milligan JV team, scoring a 896-pin total across the five team games and a scoring average of 179.2. Her strongest single game came in game two, when she toppled 214 pins.
Another JV bowler, Taylor Davis, notched a 25th-place individual mark, including 888 pins overall. She averaged 177.6 pins per game and knocked down 212 pins in her first team game.
The JV team also set a new program record, scoring 259 pins in a single baker game.
Next up for the women is a trip to Las Vegas, Nev., where the Buffs will be competing in a pair of Tier 1 tournaments from Dec. 18-21. First up is the Glenn Carlson on Dec. 18-19, and the second tourney is the Collegiate Shootout on Dec. 20-21.
