Women’s Bowling finishes as runner-up at SSAC Championships
SAVANNAH, Ga. (February 24, 2024) – The Milligan University women’s bowling team reached the final of the Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) Women’s Bowling Championship but finished as the conference runner-up on Saturday.
SAVANNAH, Ga. (February 24, 2024) – The Milligan University women's bowling team reached the final of the Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) Women's Bowling Championship but finished as the conference runner-up on Saturday.
The Buffs met top-seeded SCAD Savannah in the winners bracket final to open the day. The winners bracket format included one traditional team game and four baker games. If the teams split the team game and bakers, a best of five would determine the winner.
SCAD edged the Buffs by 10 pins in the traditional team game 878-868. Brianna Rickert led Milligan with 204 pins, followed by Allison Robbins with 182. The Bees outscored Milligan 838-757 in the four baker games to send the Buffs to the elimination bracket.
The elimination bracket format featured best of seven baker match play. The Buffs met No. 3 seed SCAD Atlanta in the elimination bracket final. The Buffs took a 4-1 over the Bees. Milligan went over 220 pins three times with a high score of 221.
Milligan met SCAD Savannah in the SSAC championship needing to beat the Bees in the winners bracket and elimination bracket formats to claim the conference title. The Bees won the team game 980-833. Robbins led the Buffs with 212 pins, followed by Rickert with 211.
In four baker games SCAD outscored Milligan 726-655 to clinch the SSAC conference crown.
The Buffs await a potential at-large bid to the NAIA National Championship field. The championship field will be released on March 4.
