LOUSIVILLE, Ky. (January 21, 2024) – The Milligan University women's bowling team finished second of 17 teams at the MSC Thomas Burris Memorial on Saturday.
The tournament format included five team games and a dozen baker games. Through team play, Milligan sat fourth with 4,610 pins. The Buffs had the second-best baker output (2,351 pins, 195.92 average) behind tournament champion Pikeville. Milligan finished with 6,961 total pins to jump Webber International and Cumberlands in the final standings.
"The pattern today played much tighter and it was tough to get a run going," said head coach Brian Rickert. "Through the team games we just stayed steady except for a rough game four. Honestly, the ladies threw the ball well but when we missed, we left splits. It's hard to get anything going when you leave close to a dozen splits."
Brianna Rickert and Allison Robbins each notched top-15 individual finishes. Rickert finished 11th with 965 pins (193.0 average) and Robbins was 12th 964 pins (192.8 average). Both bowlers went over 200 pins twice with Rickert notching a high of 233 and Robbins recording 208.
Laci MacQuisten placed 36th with 901 pins (180.2 average). Taylor Davis averaged 185.0 pins with a high of 205 in three games.
Braeton Wilson paced Milligan's junior varsity as she finished 22nd with 930 pins (186.0). Wilson's first game of 234 set her up for a top-25 finish. Milligan JV finished third of five teams with 6,224 pins.
"The thing that makes this team special is that every single member contributes," said Rickert. "It showed during our baker matches where I believe we averaged higher than we've done all year. That helped push us into a strong second place finish today and gives us a ton of momentum going into the NAIA Southeast Regional in a couple weeks."
Milligan bowling returns to action in two weeks at the NAIA Southeastern Open on Feb. 3-4.
