MARIETTA, Ga. (November 5, 2023) – The Milligan University women's bowling team finished seventh of 21 teams at the Buffs' first Tier 1 tournament of the season, the Bowlero Southern Collegiate Classic.
"This group of ladies is so much fun to coach," said head coach Brian Rickert. "Yet can be so frustrating too! Our spare game was so inconsistent today and yet we still finish in the top 10 at a Tier 1! These ladies have so much potential and it's going to be my job to figure out how to bring it all together."
The tournament format included six team games on Saturday and 20 baker games on Sunday. Milligan sat in seventh place at 5,511 pins in the teams and finished seventh overall with 9,137 total pins after the baker games.
"The only frustration of my job is knowing what they are capable of and being patient while they keep learning and improving," said Rickert.
Emily Cheesman paced the Buffs in individual play with an 18th-place finish. She cleared 1,160 pins (193.33 average) with two games over 200 and a high of 224.
Laci MacQuisten used a fast start with opening games of 213 and 211 to finish 25th with 1,129 pins (188.17 average). Allison Robbins started with a 236 on her way to 1,091 pins (181.83 average) and a 32nd-place finish.
Brianna Rickert averaged 184.6 pins in five individual games with four efforts over 180.
Brooke Smith paced Milligan's junior varsity in 46th with a high game of 212 and a total of 1,026 pins (171.0). The Buffs had the only JV team at the event and finished with 7,965 pins.
"They are the model of what a team is," said Rickert. "They push each other, cheer for each other, drive each other to be better! From our varsity players to our JV players, they are truly a big family."
The Buffs return to action with a pair of Tier 1 tournaments in December at the Lehigh Valley Collegiate Classic (Dec. 18-19) and the Roto Grip Keystone Quacker Classic (Dec. 20-21).
