(RV) Milligan Women’s Hoops Beats TWU to Finish Undefeated at Home in 2024-25
MILLIGAN, Tenn. – The Milligan University women's basketball team finished their 2024-25 home campaign with a victory over AAC foe Tennessee Wesleyan by a score of 87-66. The Lady Buffs finish their regular season undefeated at home, going 12-0.
The first quarter was a slow start for the Buffs, especially on the offensive end, as they struggled to get much going. They ended up shooting just 40% from the field on an 8-of-20 clip. They still held a slim 16-12 lead, as the Bulldogs were a much more hapless 4-of-16.
Quarter number two started much better for the Buffs on the offensive end in large part due to Jaycie Jenkins pouring in 10 points in the second quarter alone. The Buffaloes took a 45-29 lead into the half.
The third quarter was another struggle for the Buffs as they really failed to get any serious momentum going in the quarter. Shooting 4-of-11 from the field for just 36% was a big reason that the Buffs lost the third quarter by a score of 24-18. They still held a commanding 63-53 edge to start the final frame, however.
Milligan concocted their best quarter in the final one, as they were effective both on the offensive and defensive ends. They outscored the Bulldogs 24-13 in the final quarter to remain undefeated at home on the season, taking an 87-66 triumph inside Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.
Jenkins led the way for Buffs scoring, finishing with 25 points on an 8-of-13 night from the field with three three-point shots and a 6-of-6 free-throw clip. Semaj Clark added 19 points on a strong 9-of-15. Lauren Longmire capped off her Senior Night with 11 points.
Clark, Longmire and Lina Lyon tied for a team-best three assists, while Kenzie Campbell supplied two and Jenkins, Tessa Gibson, Naomi Atchley and Haley Crozier dished out one apiece.
Jenkins led the way with 12 backboards to earn a double-double, while Clark was second with six. Longmire and Lyon reeled in four each, as Campbell and McKenna Myers nabbed three and Jenna Hare notched one.
Longmire had four steals in the battle and Gibson added three of her own. Atchley had two steals and a block in the win, while Jenkins had a pair of rejections. Campbell and Lyon each had a single theft in the triumph.
The Buffs are back in action on Saturday as they travel to Brenau (GA) for the final AAC game as they look to lock up a #1 seed in the upcoming AAC tournament, as well as at least a share of the AAC regular-season championship.
