Lady Buffs Basketball Demolishes Truett McConnell in AAC Home Opener
MILLIGAN, Tenn. - The Milligan women's basketball team is back in the win column after a dominant 88-53 home win over the visiting Truett-McConnell Bears to move to 2-4 overall and 1-1 in Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) play.
The Buffs would dominate the opening quarter of play holding the bears to just 28% shooting from the field. Meanwhile, the Buffs, led by Jaycie Jenkins with 13 in the opening quarter; would lead 27-9.
Quarter number two was closely contested, with it being more of a back-and-forth affair. The Buffs would take a 49-28 lead into the half. Additionally, they shot 60% from three-point range in the quarter to help maintain control over the Bears.
The latter half of the tilt was dominated by the Lady Buffs, who were able to outscore the Bears 24-14 in the penultimate quarter and grow their lead 73-42 entering the fourth quarter. Milligan was able to control the final quarter of play to their liking and take the win at Steve Lacy Fieldhouse, 88-53.
Semaj Clark and Jaycie Jenkins led the way for the Buffs with each scoring 20 points on 7-of-10 shooting nights. Jenkins was also able to add nine rebounds to her stat sheet in the win, nearly notching a double-double. As a team, the Buffs shot 51.7% from field for the game.
Clark and Lauren Longmire tied for the team lead in assists with four each in the triumph.
On the glass, Jenkins' nine boards led the squad, while Clark and Naomi Atchley added five apiece. Jenna Hare contributed four backboards, as well.
Tessa Gibson had an outlandish five steals, while both Lina Lyon and Longmire added two each, and Jenkins and Caroline Krueger each blocked a shot in the victory.
Milligan, now 2-4, will play host to Columbia College (S.C.) for another AAC bout on Wednesday, Nov. 20. Tipoff is set for 5:30pm.
