No. 4 Campbellsville too much for (RV) Lady Buffs Basketball at Chamber of Commerce Classic
McKENZIE, Tenn. – Day two of the Chamber of Commerce Classic, hosted by Bethel University in McKenzie, Tenn., included a highly-billed matchup between the (RV) Milligan University women's basketball squad and the No. 4-ranked Tigers of Campbellsville University. After 40 minutes, the Tigers would pull away from the Buffs to hand Milligan an 88-70 loss.
Milligan's first quarter included an 8-of-18 shooting performance from the squad, which put them at 44.4% for the stanza. Unfortunately, Campbellsville connected on 10-of-19 for a 52.6% conversion rate, putting Milligan behind 27-18 after one. The Buffs then struggled to a 6-of-18 clip in the second quarter, while the Tigers made 50% of their shots to jump out front 49-36 at the half.
In the matchup's third quarter, Milligan made some inroads, scoring a 18-14 advantage over the course of the period. Unfortunately, they could not replicate that level of success in fourth, as Campbellsville posted a 25-16 final frame to move on to the 88-70 win.
Offensively, Jenna Hare scored 18 points off the bench on a 7-of-11 shooting day. Lauren Longmire added 16 points on a 4-of-8 day from long range, and Semaj Clark scored 10 points for Milligan. Jaycie Jenkins tallied nine points on 4-of-7 shooting, as Campbellsville aimed to take her out of the contest from the start.
Clark led the squad with five assists on the day, and Longmire and Lina Lyon added three apiece. Two assists from both Jenkins and Kenzie Campbell, as well as one from Naomi Atchley, rounded out the list of assists in the loss.
Jenkins had 11 rebounds and was just a single point shy of a double-double performance. Lyon added eight and Clark provided seven for the Buffaloes.
Milligan had five steals in the game, including three from Clark and two from Longmire. Jenkins and Clark each blocked a single shot, as well.
After two particularly challenging matchups with Bethel and Campbellsville, the Lady Buffs (1-2) will look forward to Saturday, Nov. 9 when they face the University of Rio Grande RedStorm in Rio Grande, Ohio.
