Women’s Basketball defeats Bluefield 100-64
BLUEFIELD, Va. (February 21, 2024) – The Milligan University women’s basketball team notched its seventh-straight win as the Buffs overwhelmed Bluefield 100-64 in Virginia on Wednesday evening.
BLUEFIELD, Va. (February 21, 2024) – The Milligan University women's basketball team notched its seventh-straight win as the Buffs overwhelmed Bluefield 100-64 in Virginia on Wednesday evening.
Milligan rises to 21-6 on the year and 18-3 in Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) play. Bluefield falls to 4-23, 4-18 AAC.
The Buffs scored the first basket of the game and never trailed at any point in the contest. Milligan used a 13-0 run to establish a 24-6 lead seven minutes into the ballgame and led by double-digits the rest of the way.
Milligan carried a 53-28 lead into halftime and 81-47 after three quarters. The Buffs scored 100 points in a game for the fifth time this season.
Halie Padgett led the Buffs with 20 points and eight rebounds. Jaycie Jenkins had 16 points. Lauren Longmire recorded 13 points, five rebounds, four assists and five steals. Lina Lyon scored 10 points and notched three rebounds and three assists off the bench. Semaj Clark had nine points and four assists.
The Buffs shot 51.2 percent from the field and had 10 different players score. Milligan hit the century mark despite shooting 25.0 percent from three and shooting nine free throws. The Buffs won the turnover margin 25-8 and finished plus-seven (38-31) in the rebounding margin.
Milligan closes its regular season against St. Andrews on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. The Buffs have clinched the third seed in next week's AAC Tournament.
