BARBOURVILLE, Ky. (January 20, 2024) – The Milligan University women's basketball team cruised to a 106-50 victory at Union on Saturday afternoon.
Milligan picks up its fourth-straight win and rises to 14-4 on the season and 11-1 in Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) league play. The Buffs complete a season sweep over the Bulldogs, who fall to 3-17, 3-11 AAC.
The Bulldogs scored the first four points of the contest but led for less than two minutes of gametime as Milligan outscored Union 23-4 the rest of the quarter. Eight different Buffs made their way onto the scoresheet in the opening period with Semaj Clark leading the way with a pair of three-pointers in the first quarter.
The Buffs maintained a double-digit lead for the entire second quarter, leading by as many as 22 (34-12) before the Bulldogs narrowed the margin to 42-29 in the final minute of the half. Kenzie Campbell scored the final basket of the half as Milligan carried a 44-29 lead into halftime.
Milligan's led by as many as 30 points in the third quarter and scored 38 points in the fourth quarter to exceed 100 points for the third time this season.
The Buffs scored at least 21 points in every quarter, had five double-digit scorers and 10 players score in the game. The Buffs shot 53.8 percent from the floor, made nine threes at 47.4 percent and made all 13 of their free throws. The Buffs recorded 25 assists and scored 33 points off 22 Union turnovers.
Lauren Longmire led the Buffs with 22 points, five rebounds, five assists and four steals. Halie Padgett registered a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Clark had 14 points and five assists. Erin Larkin had a season-high 13 points and Jaycie Jenkins had 10 points, eight rebounds and four assists.
The Buffs host first-place No. 25 Reinhardt on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
